Community Cars

A kind, caring and compassionate service which gives a safe and helping hand

Community Cars is a voluntary car scheme which helps anyone living in the Bournemouth area who is unable to use public transport, but still need to make essential journeys. Volunteer drivers, using their own cars, offer a door to door service for members to help them access much needed services.

These services can include visits to the GP, dentist, luncheon clubs and friendship groups, even the Hairdresser. At Community Cars we understand how difficult life can become once people are unable to drive  or use public transport.

Community Cars is manned by Volunteer drivers who use their own cars. Mileage is charged at 60p per mile (minimum return charge £5) and this is calculated from the driver’s home. To join Community Cars an annual membership fee of £10 is required (this is a joint membership with the BAT Bus).

Jean, a member of Community Cars, uses the service to visit the Hairdressers and her local GP. "Without Diana, my driver, calling for me and taking me out it would be far more expensive to use a taxi; but most importantly, Diana is now my friend and I know that when she calls I will not be rushed and we'll have time for a chat"

La La, uses the scheme regularly and says '' it is amazing to find this help, I don't know how I'd manage without it''

A new fully accessible MPV to help wheelchair bound residents of Bournemouth

Help is now at hand for wheelchair bound residents of Bournemouth who need to get out and about in the community but can only leave their homes in an accessible taxi. A new fully accessible vehicle has recently been purchased by sedcat and is available to members who can only travel in a wheelchair.

The new MPV will be driven by fully trained Volunteer drivers from the sedcat Volunteer Community Car Scheme. With the arrival of the new MPV any sedcat member who needs to travel in a wheelchair can now do so in comfort and style; a Volunteer driver will collect them from their home and take them to wherever they need to go, it's as easy as that!

The new MPV has been funded through the generosity of local charitable trusts and some fundraising events which have been run by sedcat during the past two years.
